Most windows
in BroadviewHouse are double
hung windows developed many years ago to cool rooms without a fan , using
the heat in the room to flow out the upper window while drawing cooler
air in the bottom window, (see diagram below). Keep the windows closed
and House fan turned off during the heat of the
day when it's cooler inside than outside , then open the Transoms
and windows and turn on the House fan at night to
cool the house ( and the plaster walls ) for
the next hot day . Ceiling Fans in some rooms
will also help with cooling .
Please keep the
windows closed when the Heat is on.
We have replaced some of the windows
and repaired some of the others (look for the hand blown glass in some
of the unbroken old window frames).
Some windows
don't open or can stick, use handles at bottom of window, not the upper
board of the window frame to open the windows, don't force, and please
use caution. Ask us for help
if you have trouble.
